“I succeeded by saying what everyone else is thinking. – Joan Rivers”

The razor-tongued comic and celebrity fashion critic passed away on September 4th, 2014 in New York City. She was truly a comedic pioneer, paving the way for many brazen female comedians. She pushed the envelope and said some crazy things, but the entertainment industry wouldn’t have been the same without here.

It seemed that Rivers coped best with tragedies through comedy, and it often rubbed people the wrong way. Her over the top humor and outrageous way of looking at things never failed to keep her in the spotlight.

Memorable Quotes from Joan Rivers

And like any mouthy celebrity, she had a Twitter account.

Here’s a tweet from August 6th, still as funny as ever:

She never skirted an issue, never held her tongue and may have said some things accidentally, or things she shouldn’t have, but she stirred things up.

“Comedy is truth. We should not apologize for it. – Joan Rivers on her Twitter

She also has some great advice for young people trying to break into show business. One of her first gigs was to write sketches for a mouse puppet on the Ed Sullivan show. She was paid $500 for each sketch. Rivers later said:

“For $500, I’ll write for Hitler,” she says. “Five hundred dollars when you’re starving and you’ve got a car payment due? Here’s what I’m saying: ‘You go through any door that opens.’ In the beginning, you go through the doors. You don’t know which is going to be the one.” (from an NPR interview)

Sure, she definitely poked fun at everyone, and everything else, but the person she picked on most, was herself.

“My breasts are so low now, I can have a mammogram and a pedicure at the same time.” – Joan Rivers

“I’ve had so much plastic surgery, that when I die, they’ll donate my body to Tupperware.” – Joan Rivers

Her brand of humor was so freeing and honest. She will be missed.
