11 Things We Learned About Bruce Jenner This Week

This week Bruce Jenner sat down with Diane Sawyer to explain his decision to “come out” as transgendered. You can see the interview online but here are a few things that we learned from the show

This is not a publicity Move.

Yeah, no kidding dude. We are all pretty sure that when Bruce got a boob-job, he was plenty serious. When he was asked by Diane Sawyer if in fact it was a ploy for attention, Jenner responded-“Are you telling me I’m going to go through a complete gender change, and go through everything you need to do that, for the show? Sorry, Diane, it ain’t happening.” Jenner also added that the show has contributed something positive -“If the whole Kardashian show. . .gave me that foothold into that world, to be able to go out there and be able to do something good, I’m all for it. I’ve got no problem with that.”

Bruce has struggled with his gender since he was a small child.

Jenner said that he had always tried on his mothers dresses – “I marked the closet so when I put it back, I would put everything back in the exact same spot so I wouldn’t get caught,” he explained. “I didn’t know why I was doing it, besides it just made me feel good.”

Jenner doesnt care about his Olympic past

Even though he won gold at the 1976 Olympics in the decathlon, Jenner admitted that he was sad and that “Not only was that part of my life over, I had so many issues to deal with.”

Jenner first started to transition 30 years ago

After battling depression in the 1980’s, Jenner decided that he should begin the process of transitioning. He worked with doctors and started taking female hormones for about five years but eventually, stopped, because he worried about his children. He would later give motivational speeches regarding his sports achievements but would feel anger with himself afterward. “I would walk off the stage and I would feel like a liar,” Jenner explained. “I’d say, you’ve just got no guts.” As a way to cope, He would change into a dress and walk around the streets as a woman to relieve pressure.

Jenner is prepared to answer questions about his sexuality

Diane Sawyer kept pressing Jenner about his sexuality and Jenner responded- “You’re going back to the sex thing, and it’s apples and oranges,” he said, a bit flustered. “There’s two different things here: Sexuality is who you’re personally attracted to, who turns you on, male or female. Gender identity is how to do with who you are as a person, and your soul, and who you identify with inside.”

Jenners family is very supportive

Through their social media outlets, Jenners family has voiced their support for their father.

Kanye and Kim are the the most supportive of Jenner

“[Kim and Kanye] were talking about it,” explained Jenner, “and he said to Kim, ‘I can be married to the most beautiful woman in the world, and I am. I can have the most beautiful little daughter in the world, and I have that. But I’m nothing if I can’t be me.” Of Kardashian kids, Jenner says that Kim has become “the most accepting and the easiest to talk to about it.”

The TV Network handled this topic very well

The show highlighted the difficulties that are faced by trans men and women, especially trans women of color: depression, violence, suicide and heckling .Considering the comments and jokes that have been made at Jenner’s expense it was refreshing to see trans issues covered in a way that was sensitive rather than sensationalist.
